Reflecții și Maxime vol. I.

If you intend to tell the truth, prepare for suffering.

Disagreement, which arises only from the fact that each considers the truth from a different place, is agreement on the essentials.

It is not the truth in which he is in possession, or imagines that he is in possession, but the honest toil he gave himself to acquire it that makes a man worth, because it is not by possession, but by research that his powers increase... Possession makes you quiet, lazy, haughty.

How ridiculous to ascribe the depth of a wound not to the edge but to the luster of the sword. Likewise, how ridiculous it is that we attribute the superiority it gives an opponent over us to his flashy style. I know of no glittering style which does not borrow its luster more or less from the truth. Only the truth gives true brilliance.

It cannot be great that is not true.

Truth...the quality of things appearing as they are.

It is one thing to show a man wrong, and another to put him in possession of the truth.

The lie... the snowball that gets bigger the more it is rolled.

Sincerity is the only thing worth cherishing beyond life, love, death or anything else. It's the only one that lasts. at the end of the end the only thing worth staying with is the truth; it is more disturbing than love, more joyful and more passionate.

The truth, it simply cannot fail. As all others fail.

Full conviction does not belong exclusively to certainty, it belongs to the necessity to believe, and man feels this necessity to believe in what is good to undertake.

Truth before all else, even if you get it at the cost of suffering... truth, truth at any cost is the great mover of consciences.

I loved truth above all else, and with it I loved justice, that is, its practical realization. I have always had the conviction, verified a hundred times by facts, that the indisputable duty, and the only happiness that never fails, is to strive with all your might for truth, and blindly direct your strength to that end. Sooner or later you realize that this is the right way... I believe in the invincible force of truth.

Truth includes not only the result, but also the path leading to it.

Mimicking the truth... sometimes seems more believable than the truth itself.

Whoever knows a truth is the master of the one who does not know it.

A hypothesis that explains everything is like two drops of water to the truth.

Even though we are not made to discover the truth, it is our duty to seek it.

It is pure madness to judge truth and falsehood only by your own skill.

Certain errors are stations of truth.

The truth only circulates with its forehead held high. When he leaves, he has passed the opposite side

Premeditated lying is no longer a matter of fantasy, but of character.

In the search for truth, the human mind is driven by aspirations, which no success, no matter how brilliant, can fully satisfy, and no fall, no matter how painful, can completely quell.

Errors are the steps of the ladder, so difficult to climb, that lead to the truth.

And in the murky mire you can see the stars.

If you want rest - believe. If you want the truth - seek and suffer.

The inability to lie is still quite far from the love of truth.

Whoever sets out on the path of search will encounter doubt.

I support any honest man who seeks to trace the truth, even if he does not walk the same path as me.

Doubt also leads to certainty, and more often than not to the opposite certainty of the doubted one.
